Not only will you have a chance to work with Dr. Welborn Young and the talented professional singers of Bel Canto Company, but you will have a great time singing with the finest high school choristers in the area and making new friends who love music and singing as much as you do. Mission
The Bel Canto High School Chorus Festival is committed to bringing up to 70 of the finest young singers from the Piedmont Triad together with excellent musicians from Eastern Music Festival to present an exciting concert of spectacular choral music. Participants will rehearse under the direction of Dr. Welborn Young, Bel Canto's accomplished artistic director and conductor and work with professional singers from Bel Canto Company. The limited enrollment ensures that each student will receive individual attention from the faculty and have a chance to meet and get to know the other singers.
So what what will we do?
Each day from June 26 to June 30, you will join some of the best high school singers in the Piedmont from 1:00-6:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Greensboro. Students will be treated like professional musicians and receive over 25 hours of hands-on musical training. The typical day will include two full ensemble rehearsals, a sectional rehearsal and the opportunity for private lessons taught by a member of the festival faculty. (Each participant will recieve one thirty-minute, private voice lesson. Additonal lessons may be possible at an additional cost, depending on availability.)
For five days you will work in a fun and focused environment to prepare a full length, public performance in the beautiful sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church. You will be joined by some of the nation’s most gifted young musicians, members of the Eastern Music Festival student orchestra, who will play with you on several pieces presented at the concert. The Eastern Music Festival is proud to sponsor the inaugural Bel Canto High School Chorus Festival, making the concert a part of its summer performance series.
